Welcome! My name is Alex Remy, and I'm a pianist and piano teacher based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I'm also a non-traditional student, and am currently working towards a series of music degrees in piano performance and education. In my time outside of music, I'm a freelance artist and photographer. As you can probably tell, I'm extremely passionate about living a full creative life, and love helping others do the same.
I first began playing piano over twenty years ago, when I was given an old Casio keyboard as a present. I was immediately drawn to it, and began experimenting with sound until it became clear I was in love and started taking lessons. Since then, piano has always been a part of my world, no matter what's going on. I've found it's an incredibly personal, expressive and therapeutic instrument, and I can't imagine life without it. (To read more about my thoughts and experiences being a pianist, check out: Ten Things Piano has Taught Me About Life.)
Once I began teaching, it opened up a whole new side of music to me. Really, there's no greater thrill than watching someone create sound for the first time, or begin to feel empowered by their own musical ability. I'm also extremely enthusiastic about my own musical education, and love sharing that enthusiasm with my own students. I believe expression is an essential part of life, and the opportunity to share that with others has been incredibly meaningful for me.
When I'm not teaching, playing piano, taking pictures, or creating art, you can find me running, going on long walks with my husband and Tess (our rehabilitated shepherd-lab rescue dog), or hanging out with our precocious cats. I also like to write, bake, read, eat good food, watch movies, listen obsessively to pandora.com, pop bubble wrap, and generally, get into mischief.
